This mission of the US Green Building Council - Indiana, South-central Branch is to promote the design, construction, and operation of physical facilities and surrounding sites throughout South Central Indiana that are environmentally responsible, healthy, and cost-effective.
The South-central branch meets the third Tuesday of every month between 11:30am-1pm. Locations vary, so please send Heidi Russell Wagner an email to inquire. We are actively recruiting new members of all backgrounds and professions - come join the discussion about LEED and green building!

2010 Steering Goals:
Development of the Green Network News campaign
Development of a monthly or quarterly "demonstration" project (i.e. a building audit) targeted at students & young professionals
A USGBC educational "open house" event, targeted for Fall 2010, that would be an opportunity for the public at large to ask any questions, get support, learn more about the USGBC resources.

Ted Medoza
Ted is owner and founder of a local energy and sustainable building design, consulting, and commissioning firm called Gengee LLC in Bloomington, IN. With over 17 years experience in the Architectural/Engineering, Communications and Energy industries, Ted brings a unique and practical blend of consulting and engineering for projects in energy, telecommunications, and mechanical systems. His familiarity with the triad of energy, technology and mechanical systems, along with related construction experience, allow him to understand more deeply the impact and balance of different systems from a holistic (operational and performance) "whole-building/whole-site" perspective. Ted always strives to search for the "best methods" approach to designing projects and providing solutions. This innovative and unique approach is embedded in his training, education and track record.
Jeff Kaden
Jeff is the University Engineer and Director of Engineering Services for Indiana University. He has over 22 years of service with IU managing first the Utility Division (including Central Heating Plant and Central Chilled Water Plant), and in his current position with managing the engineering division. Jeff was a member of the Sustainability Task Force for IU and co-chair of both the Energy and Building Environment Working Groups. He currently sits on the Sustainability Advisory Board and mentors students as part of the Energy and Built Environment working group. Jeff was a charter member of the Bloomington branch of the Indiana USGBC chapter and is currently the state liaison for the branch.
Heidi Russell Wagner
Heidi is currently the environmental planner for Monroe County and works to promote low impact development, green building, and wise natural resource allocation. She has special interests in watershed level management, conservation biology, and stormwater pollution prevention. Heidi has given numerous presentations on the natural environment of Indiana and works to educate residents on our disappearing natural heritage. She is constantly working to expand her education and has recently volunteered to lead the Energy Committee for the Bloomington Commission on Sustainability. Heidi received a Master’s in Forest Sciences with a concentration in Geographic Information Systems from Colorado State. He undergraduate major was Natural Resource Management with a minor in Conservation Biology.
Pam Weaver
Pam has been a marketing and communications specialist for more than 25 years and her current day job is building e-marketing plans for Cook, Inc. medical device company. She is a long-time student of and advocate for green building and is in the process of planning and building a new residence based on LEED and Universal Design guidelines. Pam provides the committee with a lay person's point of view and some techie support.
Charlie Mason
Charlie is an engineer with over 37 years experience in utility production and facility design & operation. He now works primarily on energy conservation studies & projects for Indiana University. Estimating the energy consumption of new buildings and analyzing monthly utility bills of existing buildings are parts of Charlie’s work. He has experience with carbon footprint calculations and with the development of energy & sustainability plans. Charlie has been involved with LEED credit selection and submittals. He manages qualified energy savings projects, following Indiana State Codes. Charlie evaluates choices between utility types along with tariff options. He hedges future natural gas contracts and has developed risk management guidelines for hedging. Charlie has purchased renewable energy certificates and has tracked the varied green energy offerings of the Indiana electric utilities. Charlie is a member of the Association of Energy Engineers through which he has become a Certified Energy Manager (CEM) and a Certified Sustainable Development Professional (CSDP). Charlie is a graduate of Georgia Tech in electrical engineering.
David Gulyas
David has given many presentations on sustainable green design to businesses and organizations, including the Chicago Center for Green Technology, the Chicago Architecture Foundation, the Bloomington Council on Sustainability, the Multi-Housing Forum, and the Green Earth Fair in Naperville, Illinois. David has written an online course: “Life Cycle Assessment for Designers” for EcoAchievers http://www.ecoachievers.com/, and was a presenter, along with author Annette Stelmack, for the USGBC Webinar Series, session 2 ReGreen your Kitchen and Bath on January 14, 2009 http://www.regreenprogram.org/regreen_webinars.html. David’s recent projects include conducting an energy audit for Bloomington Playwrights Project building, with Bloomington based Gengee LLC, and tracking documentation for his LEED H home submittal. David will be teaching a course on “Fundamentals of LEED” at the School of Public and Environmental Affairs in the fall of 2010. David also appeared in an episode of HGTV’s “Designer’s Challenge” in 2005.
Jacqui Bauer
Jacqui Bauer is the City of Bloomington's first Sustainability Coordinator, a position she has held since May of 2010. In this position, she facilitates ongoing efforts to make Bloomington a more sustainable community, including a range of projects dealing with green building, transportation and land-use innovation, water conservation, energy efficiency, and outreach. Before coming to the City, she served for five years as the Assistant Director of Indiana University's Workshop in Political Theory and Policy Analysis, a research center that studies sustainability and natural resource management under the direction of Nobel prize winner Elinor Ostrom. Previously, Jacqui held the post of State Director of the Indiana Rural Community Assistance Program, where she worked with rural Indiana communities to develop and implement large-scale, multi-year drinking water and sanitation projects. She is a native of Michigan and holds a Bachelors degree in Japanese Language from the University of Michigan and a Masters in Environmental Science and a Masters in Public Affairs from Indiana University.
Aaron Wagner
Aaron Wagner is a landscape designer and horticulturist. Aaron has been in the landscape design and contracting industry for a decade and has a degree landscape design and landscape horticulture and contracting. He specializes in ecological landscapes with emphasis on rain water capture, xericscaping (including efficient irrigation design utilizing weather and moisture sensors and micro irrigation), and habitat restoration. Aaron integrates public use spaces, with emphasis on bicycle and pedestrian corridors and functional public plazas, seamlessly into the natural landscape creating highly usable and ecologically balanced spaces.
